Tourism
As part of the comprehensive national reform program of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) seeks to develop tourism as a development platform for the economy. The Government envisions Bahrain becoming a high-quality leisure and business tourism destination for the outbound markets of the Middle East, Europe and, possibly, Asia.
A process of defining the tourism vision and roadmap and anchoring it with the key stakeholders started in June 2005 and was culminated in a stakeholder workshop on September 28, 2005. From this workshop, the Bahrain EDB has been working on the development of the country’s comprehensive tourism strategy and master plan. Bahrain EDB is also in the process of establishing the Tourism Development Board in order to bring to fruition the country’s vision. The TDB will be a quasi-government agency with significant private sector representation. It will provide tourism investors with the right legislative and planning infrastructure through coordinating developments and regulation of the tourism industry in accordance with the comprehensive master plan.
The Bahrain EDB has been working closely with renowned consulting firm to translate the vision into a tourism development strategy and a physical plan. The strategy will clearly identify target source market and anticipated demand. On the other hand, the physical plan will identify priority tourism development zones and the required products in those areas (hotels and resorts, entertainment facilities, cultural offerings... etc) to give Bahrain a clear value proposition for the selected themes.
